|本文=When a cat rolls over to show its belly, it is usually a sign of being relaxed or a greeting, not an invitation to touch. Reach for the belly and you may get grabbed, bitten or kicked.
|なぜ=The belly is a vulnerable area with no bones to protect it, so showing it means the cat feels safe with you. When touched, though, it may switch to defending itself or to hunting play.

|補足=Some cats do let you touch their belly; it depends on the individual and on familiarity. Research has mainly looked at cats rolling towards other cats; the meaning towards humans comes from expert explanations. A related fact in the same genre is [[Special:MyLanguage/三毛猫はほぼすべてメスでオスはめったに生まれない|#0042]]. Japanese Wikipedia's "Cat" (ネコ) article also describes belly-up posture as a sign of trust and relaxation.
