|本文=Garlic smell on your hands is hard to scrub off with soap, but it comes off faster if you lightly clap your hands together under running water.
|なぜ=Hypothesis: the smell comes from sulphur-containing compounds lodged with skin oils in the creases of the skin and around the nails. Clapping opens and closes the creases and pushes out compounds that scrubbing cannot reach; the running water carries away what is loosened rather than dissolving it.

|根拠1要約=A paper measuring odour compounds (diallyl disulfide and allyl methyl sulfide, both containing sulphur) given off by human skin after eating grilled garlic. Evidence that the smell comes from sulphur-containing compounds. It does not deal with garlic on the hands or with clapping

|補足=This is a hypothesis; replications wanted. Whether cold or warm water makes a difference is unconfirmed. Rubbing hands on stainless steel is a separate topic because the evidence for it is disputed.
